Nestled amidst the picturesque landscapes of Pemberton, Western Australia, lies a hidden gem that promises a relaxing Easter weekend escape for you and your pups. Welcome to Big Brook Arboretum, a serene haven where nature enthusiasts, hikers, and those seeking solace can immerse themselves in the beauty of the great outdoors. As a passionate WA explorer, I recently had the pleasure of introducing my friends to a blissful Easter Weekend Getaway. When visiting this enchanting destination, and here’s what I did.
Big Brook Arboretum, managed by the ParksWA, is a nature lover’s paradise. As I entered the arboretum, I was greeted by towering karri and marri trees, their canopies forming a majestic cathedral of green. The tranquility of the surroundings immediately enveloped me, offering a respite from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The arboretum boasts a small collection of both native and exotic trees, providing a unique opportunity to learn about and appreciate the rich biodiversity of Western Australia.
But hey, if you’re craving a bit more adventure, you’re in luck! Big Brook Arboretum is conveniently located on the world-famous Bibbulmun Track. The track This epic hiking trail stretches over 1,000 kilometers, taking you through some of Western Australia’s most awe-inspiring landscapes. Get ready for towering forests, sweeping valleys, and a journey through diverse ecosystems. It’s a hiker’s dream come true! I only completed a small section with the puppies.
Want some quick adrenaline instead? I recommend the exhilarating experience of climbing the iconic Gloucester Tree. Located nearby, this towering karri tree stands tall at a staggering 53 meters and you can actually climb it! As you ascend the tree using the series of metal spikes embedded in its trunk, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding forests. It’s a heart-pounding adventure that will make you feel like you’re on top of the world. Just be prepared for a bit of a challenge getting around people going in the opposite direction! But trust me, the sense of accomplishment and the views from the top are absolutely worth it.
But my preference will always to be take a relaxing walk around the picturesque Big Brook Dam. The damn is a light walk, and 5km round loop. Fishing enthusiasts can cast their lines into the dam’s depths, hoping to reel in a prized catch. It was a joy to witness families enjoying picnics and children playing by the water’s edge. Whether you’re an avid angler or simply seeking a peaceful spot to unwind, the Big Brook Dam offers a serene setting for everyone.
So, pack your bags, grab your hiking boots, and get ready to experience the tranquility and adventure of Big Brook Arboretum in Pemberton. It’s time to reconnect with nature, unwind from the daily grind, and make memories that will last a lifetime. Easter weekend is calling – will you answer?
