Have you got a 4 hour layover in Singapore? Then you need to go and check out it’s crowning Jewel and yes, it is worth going through the immigration checks. But Jewel is worth a visit, even if its not a layover.
Featuring the world’s largest man-made waterfall, complete with the expected light show (operating at night only) is the highlight of Jewel but not the only attraction. Just the prettiest, regardless of which angle you view it from. That includes underneath from the foodcourt!
The Changi Airport lists the following attractions;
- Shiseido Forest Valley
- Canopy Park (Which includes Discovery Slides, Foggy Bowls, Petal Garden and Topiary Walk)
- Canopy Bridge
- Sky Nets (Bouncing and Walking versions)
- Hedge Maze & Mirror Maze
It’s quiet frankly ridiculous and extravagant and sums up Singapore for me. Being a cheapskate, I only paid for Canopy Park but that actually afforded the best views for the last show on top of the Discovery Slide, which is probably not something you can get away with during busier times. Next time I visit, I plan to do the bouncing sky net. The canopy bridge was over-priced in my opinion, as were most of the high-end retail outlets that are also part of Jewel. If you have cash to burn, there is plenty of shopping to be done.
The walk through the Topiary Park and Flower garden was pleasant, and perfect for families with very young kids. It’s also cool! A pleasant relief in an otherwise very hot and humid part of the world. I had far to much fun going down the Discovery Slide as a 35 year old Aussie tourist wth no shame. Thank goodness its still open late, well past bedtime for most kiddies.
Was it my favourite part of Singapore? No, that is probably still Sentosa Island. But I’m still glad I went and I would happily visit the Jewel of Singapore once more.
