Sentosa, an entertainment island in Singapore is a popular tourist destination. I normally try to avoid the crowds, but dammit I loved it here.
The island doesn’t have to be expensive, and you could cut costs by walking over the bridge. But getting going by style in the sky car was an amazing first view and I don’t regret it.
Meeting the Merlion
The Merlion is sadly endangered, as development looms. So you might not be able to climb it anymore. But it has great views and you can look out its mouth. Personally, I think it’s better lit up at night though.
You can walk through the main drag to find the southernmost point of continental Asia, where you can watch the tankers from the viewing platforms. Its a great spot for a rest and soak up the views.
Fort Siloso
Fort Silos is on the far end of the island. I don’t think many tourists make it this far but there is a free shuttle bus that will get you there if its too hot to walk. You will learn about the military history of the island and World War 2 from a unique perspective. There are amazing recreations with models, and a great museum. I had no idea how much Australian involvement there was in Singapore and I could spend much longer exploring. You will need to take water though, its easy to get dehydrated.
Night-time Delights
Lights and water is a common theme in Singapore. If you can make it to the end of a busy day exploring, then the Winds of Time is absolutely worth the small ticket price. Here’s a sneak peak that doesn’t do it justice live. I loved how clever the art design was.
The best way to top off a busy day? a night-time cable car ride of course! But one day is not enough in Sentosa, so stay tuned for an update on more adventures.
